Background
A university’s media and IT department needed a compact, reliable, and easy-to-operate solution to support daily lecture capture, hybrid teaching, and large campus events.
The existing AV system included multiple HDMI projectors, ceiling-mounted PTZ cameras, and a standard classroom audio system. However, the previous workflow required multiple devices for switching, streaming, and recording, which increased complexity and required dedicated technical staff.
The university looked for a single integrated device that could:
• handle mixed HDMI and SDI sources;
• support both streaming and local recording;
• work seamlessly with the school’s LMS, OBS, and conference platforms;
• be operated by student assistants with minimal training.
Products Used
• GoStream Duet (Main switcher + recorder + streamer)
• 2 × PTZ Cameras (Instructor view & student view)
• Lecture Audio System (Existing campus mic & mixer)
• Lilmon 5 On-Camera Monitor (Operator preview)
System Workflow
This workflow consolidates switching, projection, recording, and streaming into a single device.
Solution Highlights
1. Mixed HDMI/SDI Input Compatibility
The GoStream Duet offers 4 HDMI and 4 SDI ports, allowing the system to accept:
• PTZ camera SDI outputs
• Laptop / Document camera HDMI outputs
• Lecture slides from the podium or media desk
This ensures complete compatibility with both older classroom equipment and modern digital sources.
2. Local Recording for Course Archiving
Lectures are recorded directly to an SSD using the Duet’s built-in recording function.
Files are stored immediately in a format suitable for:
• LMS upload
• Post-production editing
• Long-term academic archiving
This eliminates the need for external recorders or capture cards.
3. Dual Outputs for Projector + Operator Monitor
The system provides two independent HDMI outputs:
• Output A: feeds the classroom projector (PGM)
• Output B: sends Multi-View to the operator’s Lilmon 5 monitor
This ensures that instructors and media staff can preview all sources in real time while maintaining a stable projection feed to students.
4. Easy Mode for Student Operators
To support classes that rely on student assistants, the Duet offers:
• simplified “Easy Mode” interface
• preset scenes
• one-button streaming
• safe switching between slides and camera views
This lowers the learning curve and reduces operational errors.
5. USB Type-C Output for OBS / LMS / Zoom
The GoStream Duet’s USB-C output acts as a UVC webcam device, allowing direct integration with:
• OBS Studio
• Zoom / Teams
• University LMS platforms requiring live class streaming
No extra capture card is needed.
6. PIP Mode for Speaker + Slides
The built-in Picture-in-Picture feature enables instructors to present slides while keeping a video window of themselves visible.
This layout is especially effective for:
hybrid classroom delivery
MOOC-style lecture capture
remote learning environments
Outcome
1. Seamless Hybrid Teaching
Teachers can deliver content simultaneously to in-person and remote students without needing technical adjustments.
2. Reduced Reliance on Technical Staff
Student assistants or teaching assistants can operate the system confidently using simplified controls, freeing IT staff for higher-level tasks.
3. Consistent Multi-Event Performance
Whether for a lecture, departmental seminar, or a large campus event, the system performs consistently with:
• stable streaming
• synchronized audio/video
• reliable recording
This ensures long-term scalability for the university’s media operations.
